Andaz Ottawa ByWard Market Hotel Review

Looking where to stay in Ottawa? The best location is ByWard Market and we ended up going with Andaz Ottawa ByWard Market. We only had one night in Ottawa to start our trip before we headed off to Quebec; so staying in a prime location was paramount. When searching for hotels, I came across the Andaz Ottawa ByWard Market which like the name said I in ByWard Market. The hotel looked trendy, modern and in ByWard Market, the prime location, and it is a Hyatt hotel, which we’ve always had good experiences with, so we booked it.

And as a plus, we had one free Hotels.com reward night. The hotel was a good price and our reward value of $230 covered our nights stay. I’ve been using Hotels.com for a while and I find they offer a good selection of hotels at good prices, especially when you look for the sales and have benefited on several occasions from their reward nights (one free night for every 10 nights booked).

Location

ByWard Market is tourist hub and a large outdoor public market with numerous pubs, restaurants and shops. It is right next to Parliament Hill so staying in ByWard Market is where you want to be when travelling to Ottawa.

Andaz Ottawa is situated on Dalhouie Street, right on the edge of the bustling ByWard Market which was perfect. It is just outside the craziness but only 5 minutes from the heart of the market. Next to the hotel is Chuck’s Roadhouse, which isn’t going to win any culinary awards but it was the perfect place to grab a quick/cheap lunch and down a few $4 beers. We also had dinner across the street at Gyubee which was an excellent all you can eat Japanese barbeque.

The CF Rideau Centre, a shopping mall with all of your needs, is only a 5 minute walk away. And 5 minutes in the other direction is the Ottawa sign. It’s safe to say the hotel is in an excellent location and perfect when you want to cram lots into a short trip to Ottawa.

Rooms

The room was spacious, modern and clean. We had two comfortable queen beds with plenty of pillows and a modern and luxurious washroom. The room also had a gorgeous view of the city. And like all modern hotels there was a fridge, coffee (a Nespresso) and a safe. The room was comfortable and perfect to relax in after a long day of travel and exploring.

Rooftop Bar & Restaurant

One of the major selling points of Andaz was the rooftop bar, Copper Spirits & Sights, which is the cities highest rooftop bar, located on the 16^th floor. We had dinner plans, so I didn’t eat there but stopped in for a drink. As expected, the drinks were pricey but came with a view. The views were excellent and there’s an indoor section for when the weather doesn’t cooperate and a beautiful outdoor terrace.

There is also a ground floor restaurant, Feast + Revel which I didn’t get a chance to try so I can’t comment on it, but it looked nice.

Final Thoughts & Review

We only had one night, but all in all, Andaz Ottawa ByWard Market was an excellent hotel and a nice stay to start out our vacation. It was only a night, but all the staff I interacted with were super friendly. One of the guys even noticed I was a Chargers fan and sparked up a conversation about how his brother was drafted by the Chargers this year. And even though we had a ton of luggage he was super accommodating and stored our many (and heavy) bags without a problem while we waited to check in. For me, if you’re heading to Ottawa, you only need a couple of nights and Andaz is a perfect and affordable place to stay for a nice little vacation in Ottawa.
