Tonga Lumina is one of Mont-Tremblant’s most popular activities, so was it worth the hype? We purchased the Multi-Activity Bundle and Tonga Lumina was one of our 3 activities.
What to Expect
Tonga Lumina cost $32 on its own, but if you purchase the Multi-Activity Bundle it’s even cheaper. Regardless though, if you’re purchasing the Multi-Activity or Tonga Lumina solo the price isn’t bad. Tonga Lumina starts at 9:30 pm and you depart from the ski-lift at the top of the Pedestrian Village. The rest of the activity takes place in the forest on the mountain.
The activity starts at 9:30 PM and goes until 11:30, but it’s best to get there early. We were told to arrive at 9:15 but it’s a good thing we got there at 9:00 because lineup was already starting to get long. By the time 9:30 rolled around the lineup was massive. We waited another 30 minutes and just before 10:00 we got on the ski-lift to head up the mountain for the experience.
The Experience
Riding the ski-lift up the mountain in the dark night was a unique experience on its own… it was kind of eerie. Then when you arrive at the top you walk along a dimly lit path and wonder, is this it? But after a few minutes the experience begins and it’s quite phenomenal.
Basically, you walk down the mountain and through the forest, so it isn’t a difficult walk. Plan for about an hour in the actual experience. As you walk you will hear the story and be presented with wisdom from Tonga, a giant who protects the forest.
The whole experience is visually stimulating. My favorite part was seeing giant glowing footprints walking along the rocks through the forest. There was also another part where hundreds of lights began to sparkle in the trees. It was one of the most unique and interesting activities I’ve experienced. Then as you reach the end there is some wisdom, similar to indigenous teachings and a lit up photo spot. The whole experience was amazing and the displays and lightwork throughout was magnificent.
Is it Worth it?
Spending $32 on the experience is totally worth it, but paying $24 with the Multi-Activity Bundle feels like a steal. Tonga Lumina was educational, stimulating and just a cool light show. It was a unique experience to walk through the dark forest at the base of the mountain all while hearing the story of a magical giant who protects the forest. And better yet, the story was in the form of a light show. This was one of our favorite things to do in Mont-Tremblant and one of the coolest things of our greater Quebec trip. If you’re in Mont-Tremblant, Tonga Lumina is a must do experience.
