B & B Manoir Mon Calme Review

This summer we stayed in Québec City for 4 nights and wanted to stay in a good location at an affordable price. Summer is peak season so fancy hotels were pricey, so we opted to stay in a charming bed and breakfast, B & B Manoir Mon Calme which is located on Grande Allée. Reviews looked good, the location seemed excellent and the price was good, and using my hotels.com mobile app gave an extra discount of $200, so we booked B & B Manoir Mon Calme at a decent price.

The Property & Building

B & B Manoir Mon Calme is a traditional bed and breakfast in an old stone-built townhouse. The building, with its Châteauesque design and traditional interior, is quite fitting as an accommodation while staying in the historic city of Québec. B & B Manoir Mon Calme is 3 stories. There is one room, and the breakfast room (we never tried it) on the main level, but the rest of the rooms are accessible by the classical steep Québec style stairs. The second floor serves primarily as the main floor and it is where you will get your key from the lock box.

Once inside, if you have a room on the third floor you will take soft carpeted interior staircase. The building is well over 100 years old so the inside is dated but clean. When stepping inside, you will notice cozy rugs, vintage mirrors, paintings and traditional décor that will give a feeling of nostalgia. It is a cool experience while staying in Québec City.

The Rooms

Like the main hallway and corridors, the rooms are eclectic with antique furniture and décor. The rooms are large, comfortable and have high ceilings. There is a washroom that is dated but has everything you need. Being a bed and breakfast, the rooms aren’t cleaned daily, but the owner is always around and checking to make sure you have everything you need. There were plenty of towels and if you need more you can change them out with fresh ones in the hallway closet. There isn’t a coffee maker in the room but there is one, along with a water dispenser and fridge in the hallway outside of the rooms.

Location

Besides the charm, one of the best things about B & B Manoir Mon Calme is the location. There is literally something to do in each direction of the property. The property is located on Grand Allée and only a block from the main restaurants, bars and terrasses of the popular street. For something more relaxing, just behind the property are the Plains of Abraham, a large green space and historic location where you can walk along the river, look at flowers or just sit on a bench and enjoy the greenery.

If you want to stroll down or eat on a street with different vibes than Grand Allée, walk 5 minutes in the other direction to the quaint shops, cafes and restaurants of Avenue Cartier. But the big attraction of Québec City is Old Québec, which is about a 15-minute walk down Grand Allée from the property.

The location of B & B Manoir Mon Calme is perfect: just outside the chaos but minutes from plenty of restaurants and within walking distance of everything you’ll want to see. And of course, if you just want to walk over for a quick beer, the main section of Grand Allée is right there.

Review, Price & Was it Worth it?

Staying in Québec and Montréal during the busy summer months can be expensive. To stay in fancy hotels or in Old Québec will cost you an arm and a leg. Even outside of Old Québec things get pricey; but after some browsing, B & B Manoir Mon Calme was the perfect compromise. A bed and breakfast in a great location.

For 4 nights we paid $1066, but that was after a $200 mobile booking discount on hotels.com. So, we paid $266 a night which was a great price. It didn’t include breakfast, that was extra which we decided not to pay for. There was a small parking lot in the back with 5 spots, we only had a car for one day, and it cost $25. All in all, we couldn’t complain about the price.

The price was good and the service was good; the owner was always around and checked on us whenever we saw her to make sure we had everything we need. And we arrived in Québec early and she had no problem letting us check in. But the best part of staying at B & B Manoir Mon Calme was convenience of the excellent location. All in all, it was an excellent stay and despite being an old building, the bed and breakfast was super charming. So, if you’re planning on a trip to Québec City and don’t mind a vintage bed and breakfast, I’d recommend B & B Manoir Mon Calme.
