We wanted to have a fancy dinner for my wife’s 40th birthday dinner; we originally thought about one of the many beach restaurants in the hotels on Palm Beach, but most had limited reservations available or looked too expensive. Aruba has good food, but it’s mostly westernized. The meat is okay, but the specialty of the island is seafood; so that’s what we knew we had to get. We decided to go with Pinchos Bar & Grill in Oranjestad.
Pinchos Bar & Grill is on the outskirts of Oranjestad and located on a dock overlooking the water. The location is perfect for sunsets and catching interesting views of airplanes flying directly above the beach. There is also a beautiful beach beside Pinchos, the view is excellent and while you eat you can see fish swimming in the water around the dock.
The decor is nice, the atmosphere is good and the staff are friendly. But what about the food? The food was excellent at Pinchos. We ordered shrimp and seared tuna for appetizers which were excellent. I didn’t expect much from the seared Tuna, but it was tender, flavorful and the combination of sauces were delicious. For dinner we ordered the Aruban flavored Mahi Mahi and the Jumbo Shrimp Skewers. Both dishes came with deliciously spiced veggies and sides. The food was excellent. The seafood was fresh, tasty and had a unique flavor to it. The seafood wasn’t westernized although it was served as gourmet platters with Caribbean/Aruban flavors and spices. It was some of the best seafood I’ve ate.
But the ambience and location were so good that they rivaled the quality of the food. It’s hard to say what the best part of the dining experience at Pinchos because the whole experience was excellent. And the service was good too and they even prepared a piece of chocolate cake for our birthday celebration. It was an excellent dinner and an excellent night to celebrate a memorable 40th birthday. For anyone looking for good seafood in Aruba, I’d recommend Pinchos Bar & Grill.
