York is small and easy to get around, but still the best place to stay is The Shambles. We only had two nights so needed to be close to the action. With such a good price, that’s why we booked the Hampton by Hilton York Piccadilly.
The hotel was just outside The Shambles and cost us just over $200 CAD a night, a good price for England in the summer peak season. The hotel also came with free breakfast. The breakfast was buffet style and was mostly English Breakfast foods… eggs, sausage, back bacon, tomatoes, beans and then the usual breads, yogurts and cereals. The breakfast was served in the lobby, which was nice with lots of seating room. I’d say the Hampton had a bar, but it was just in the lobby too, still they had a few beers on tap which was a bonus.
The rooms were on the smaller size, but I’ve stayed in smaller. Despite being small, the rooms were modern and nicely decorated. The beds were super soft and comfortable. The rooms had everything you needed from a coffee maker to extra pillows, a window with a decent view, a nice TV and a safe.
The staff were nice, and an added bonus was the lift which helped bring our luggage and stroller to the lobby. It was only a small staircase, but the lift was sure a help, especially after our tiring journey in London. There is also a terrace where you can sit or eat your breakfast.
All in all, we had an excellent stay in York and the hotel was part of the reason. The location was excellent and the hotel was clean and comfortable. The price was great and having free breakfast helped us save a bit more money which was nice, especially with the price of things in the UK. If you are ever staying in York, I’d recommend The Hampton by Hilton York Piccadilly.
Here is how I’d rate the hotel:
