Anyone who’s been to London knows it’s expensive. Being the global city with some of the world’s most iconic sites comes with a price tag, but luckily there are a wide range of hotels available. When researching, the hotel with the best ratings, in the best location and with a decent price was The Tower Hotel. I was shocked when I saw the price, after reading a few reviews we booked it! We secured a price of just under $250.00 CAD a night, in the peak season of August, it seemed too good to be true.
When I heard the Tower Hotel was across from, the Tower Bridge, I thought “across” and that the Tower Bridge would be within view… that wasn’t the case, the hotel is literally right in front of The Tower Bridge and only a 5-minute walk from the London Tower and Tower Hill underground station. The tube being so close, if you want to explore the rest of London all it requires is a 5-minute walk to the station and a quick and easy tube ride to your destination. So, the location was excellent, but what about the rest of the hotel?
Well, there are several restaurants and bars, a Star Bucks inside the lobby and a Costa Coffee next door, giving you plenty of options. There is also a terrace bar on the Thames, with prime views of Tower Bridge. The drinks are overpriced, but the view is amazing.
The rooms were basic but large. Our room had a window that wasn’t overlooking the Tower Bridge, but the St. Katherine’s docks, the view was decent. The rooms were clean, the beds were good, but there was no fridge or air conditioning. We stayed in London during a heatwave, so it got toasty, but most places in Europe don’t have air conditioning and AC isn’t necessary in London most of the time.
The lobby was nice and the hotel offers contactless check in, so we didn’t have to wait in line and it took under 5 minutes to check in and get our room keys. It was kind of dystopian not talking to anyone, but it was efficient, and when we needed to chat with staff they were friendly and helpful. There is also a contactless snack bar in the lobby that includes beer… an added perk.
Overall, we had a great time in London, and the location of the Tower Hotel really added to our trip. It was amazing waking up and stepping out of our hotel each morning with an iconic view. For the price, The Tower Hotel is a must stay for anyone on a budget and looking to visit London!
Overall, here is how I’d rate the hotel:
Rooms – Good
Location – Excellent
Price – Good
Amenities – Good
Cleanliness – Great
Staff/service - Good
